ICC @ The 1ST TESDA Director General’s Forum in Cavite

ICC Administative Coordinators Nelia Paredes & Arlyn Dongallo together with ICC Dasmarinas Branch Coordinator Gherilyn Tumale, ICC Silang Branch Coordinator Ma. Lucia Denado, and selected student leaders from ICC Dasmarinas & ICC Silang attended the First Regional Encounter Among Calabarzon’s TVET Trainers held last November 8, 2010 at the Sisters of Mary Institute in Silang, Cavite.

The Guest of Honor was the new TESDA Director General (DG) Joel Villanueva. Likewise invited were Bacoor Congresswoman Lani Mercado Revilla and Imus Congressman Erineo Maliksi. During his talk DG Villanueva encouraged the TVET trainers to employ out-of-the-box thinking in training and  to use creative ways and more innovative approaches to teaching that could sustain and enhance the energies and impatience of trainees under their supervision.  DG Villanueva likewise mentioned that the skills required in teaching have changed dramatically that is why TESDA continues to upgrade skills and competencies by regular enrichment through activities like the First Regional Encounter Among Calabarzon’s TVET Trainers.

The ICC students present were lucky enough to have met the new TESDA Director General. It is also important to note that ICC has been practicing for the longest time the message of the new DG Villanueva. To his suggestion that TVET trainers employ out-of-the-box thinking in teaching and use innovative approaches to training, ICC has brought various student groups to different forums, conventions and conferences to hear various experts discuss important topics about their field of specialization. This type of activities expands the skills & competencies of the students beyond the four walls of the ICC classrooms. Just recently, the ICC Entrep students participated in the Go Negosyo Forum and for the past twelve years, the entire ICC community has observed, witnessed and examined the latest computer hardware & software products in the Philippines through the annual Comddap conference held in Metro Manila.

As to DG Villanueva’s idea of continuously upgrading the skills & competencies of the TVET trainers, ICC has regularly sent their faculty members to lectures and conferences in De La Salle University-Manila and in various conferences organized by the Philippine Computer Society. All this activities reflect the “kaizen” or continuous improvement philosophy of ICC’s management to better improve the quality of information technology education given to all ICC students in all branches.
